FENDING...

Yes, I finally left Minnie alone today to fend for herself.
No Mommy there to protect her from her bully brother!

Actually, I was in a rush this morning, since I had to drop my husband off at the train station, and I had to be at work by 8:30am.  And Minnie refused to go into the study. My husband tried to get her into the room, but they never listen to him anyway, and of course he was not successful.

I just didn't have the time to deal with them, and she just wanted to be out running around, so I left her alone.  Let's see what happens when I get home.

I'll run home for lunch and take a look at what they are up to.  I'm not too afraid especially after my co-worker said a very simple yet deep statement.  She said, "If Poofy was going to really hurt Minnie, he would have done so already, and he has not hurt her at all.".  That makes me feel so much better.

Fresh 4 Life

I was at the Pet Store a couple days ago.  I seem to be at the Pet Store quite often these days, since I acquired my new Kitten, Minnie.  On this particular day, I decided to go early and get my cat food, a large litter bag and maybe some treats if they were on sale, and I would head home.

And sure enough, when I entered Pet Smart by my home, I was the first one in the store at 9am sharp!  I was excited to get my shopping out of the way and get home.  A young man greeted me at the store entrance and he was very jovial and friendly.  He had a curious beard, which tapered at the very end, making his chin look like an ice cream cone.  He had a mustache as well and a thick head of hair.  Really, the only features truly visible on this man's face was his eyes.  They were smiling and flickering all at once, and it brought a smile to my face.

He followed me into the back, and asked if I needed help.  I said that I knew what I wanted, and I thanked him for asking.  He proceeded to ask me what I was buying.  So, I told him that I was looking at which Fresh Step Litter to purchase, since I now have 2 cats.  He told me that he had 2 cats too and that one of them was Maine Coon (just like me!); we tossed our stories at each other about our cats and then he asked me to think about trying another type of litter, called Fresh 4 Life.  Of course, I'm human and I am without question a creature of habit and my first reaction was to say, "No, I like my litter.  I usually get Fresh Step and I have no problem with it.".

But he did not relent.  He continued to tell me all about Fresh 4 Life and how good it was for my cat.  It has natural lemon and rosemary scents which are activated with every use of the litter box and it would give my home a nice fresh scent.  He also told me that it has maximum clumping capabilities and that the cats would not track the litter outside the box; at least they would not track it as much.

But what got me was that he said that it was cheaper.  Of course that did it for me.

Not only was it great and apparently better, but it was Cheaper!!  If any of you know me, you know how I love a bargain!!  (I know what you are thinking!! I'm cheap!!  LOL!!)

So, I bought it.  He also convinced me to try new cat food.  He handed me 6 small sample bags to try out. he said that my cats would love it because its mainly protein.  Since cats are carnivores, they need protein in their diet; unlike us, who need a balanced diet; cats primarily need protein.  How could I refuse?  He just gave me free cat food!!  He even brought the huge bag of litter to my car!  I really shouldn't be surprised.  I have wonderful people in my town.

Never the less, he was a great salesman, and I even became a member!! Go Figure!!  Any how, I did do my own reading on cat litter and cat food, and as far as I can see, he's right.  My elfin friend at the pet store won me over!

I have since changed the cats' litter and I have noticed that it smells quite nice around their litter boxes.  I am very happy with Fresh 4 Life cat litter, and I would genuinely and whole heartedly advise you to just try if for yourselves and make the change!

Minnie Munnie

So, I finally got a video of Minnie playing with her Dad.  :)

We had Company!

So, the Poofy and Minnie Show continues....

We had company over this weekend; my niece stayed with us for 2 nights as well as my nephew.  But my niece was the most curious of all.  She had never really been around cats, and the cats had never been around a tiny munchkin child who wanted to know what they were all about!
So, to my surprise, Minnie darted out from the study, where she usually is, and ran up the staircase, right into her Bully's arms.  Poofy was waiting for her, but he did not touch her in the least.  He decided to play guard dog, and he stood in the doorways while Minnie hid under a bed, furniture, where ever... Poofy was the all knowing, alpha male protector, and Minnie was only too happy to have someone to take care of her.
Obviously, they had no idea they were running away from my niece who was even more afraid than the two of them.
Whenever she said, "MINN-NIE!!", Minnie would dart behind Poofy and wait and watch.  Poofy would Puff himself up (I really didn't think he needed any more Puffing since he is a Maine Coon and has enough Puff, hence his name, Poofy; but okay...); Poofy would puff himself up and stare down  my niece hoping to scare her away.  And, well, it worked.

So, the cats had a common enemy and decided to form a truce for the weekend.  I didn't hear a peep out of them.  But, come Sunday night, the drama continued again.  Poofy chased her down and pinned her to the ground and she yelled bloody murder, until I showed my face and they separated, apparently afraid of what I would do.

Moral of the Story to all you Cat owners out there!!

Have obnoxious loud music and have more people over.  The cats form a nice truce and they don't fight!!  :)

Who am I really Protecting??

My two clowns are so dramatic!!

When its time for breakfast, they stroll past each other, each one swishing their tail, making sure to swat the other one in the face as they walk by; but still they keep their distance.

Then, suddenly, as soon as breakfast is done, Poofy waits for his turn to ambush Minnie!

BOOM! He jumps right on top of her and she screams and runs for cover.

Of course I got all riled up and started chasing after Poofy, yelling at him to stop; but he just kept the ambush attacks coming.  This morning he went after her 5 times.

But Minnie is turning out to be no spring chicken!  Right after his first 2 attempts to jump on her she decided that it was time for her to come after Poofy!  She found that his back was turned toward her and she jumped right on top of HIM!

What is going on in the world???

I thought I had a BIG POOFY BULLY on my hands... now I'm not sure who I'm protecting...

Poofy the Bully or Minnie the sneaky Assailant??!!

Minnie on Her Back...

Minnie doesn't run from Poofy anymore.  She has started to roll around on her back when he is around; but then he takes the chance and charges at her, pinning her to the ground, while he "sniffs" her I think.  He never hurts her.  He just wants to sniff her.  And she screams like crazy (obviously scared).

Not sure what that's about but I am still keeping them separated for now, with an occasional interaction under my guidance.  I can't wait until she gets a bit bigger.  Then I won't mind letting them at each other.

Its just not a fair fight right now... she barely knows what's going on; and she a bit clumsy right now.. chases after her own tail and wobbles when she walks.  :)  Typical kitten... Minnie Skinny.
